EXCLUSIVE MONTHS

All praise belongs to Almighty Allah, who has guided us to this, and we could not have found the way if Almighty Allah had not guided us. Countless Blessings and Salutations be upon the Most Beloved and the Last Messenger of Almighty ALLAH, upon his blessed Family and his Noble Companions رِضْوَانَ اللهُ تَعَالٰی عَلَيهِمْ اَجْمَعِينْ.
It is mandatory upon every individual (man and woman) to seek the knowledge of Islam. Only the Light of the Islamic knowledge can remove the darkness of ignorance. The original outline of Gulaman e Ahlebait Leicester is to empower people through spirituality. One of the major understandings we all should commence to learn is to know the significance of the Islamic months. This has been a tradition of our ancestors, who would teach us the importance of the Islamic month that we would enter. They would discuss the historical background and the memorial dates of each month. All the twelve Islamic months have their own significance and are honored accordingly. Let’s strive to practice the values and traditions of our ancestors. Let’s unite and help our generation to become moralistic with great ethics which will benefit us in both the worlds, In Sha Allah.

THE ISLAMIC CALENDAR

The Islamic year is known as Hijra. It commenced when our Beloved NABI e KAREEM صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَاَصْحَابِهِ وَسَلَّمْ migrated from Makkah Al-Mukarramah to al-Madinah al-Munawwarah with Sayyiduna Abu Bakr As-Siddique رَضِى اَللهُ عَنْهُ. Almighty Allah states in the Divine Book al-Quran al-Kareem (Surah Taubah, verse 36) that time has been divided into twelve-months therefore the Islamic twelve-month calendar is based on a purely lunar cycle of 354 days. Thus, Islamic days are not associated to the seasons of the 365-day solar year. Over the course of years, all the Islamic events may occur in Spring, Summer, Autumn, or Winter.
At times we see scholars adding the word “Sharif” or “Mubarak” next to few Islamic months. It is due to the respectful memory that specific month relates to, because “having knowledge without respect is like having a plate full of rotten sweets.”
Let’s learn and teach our youth about the four sacred months.

THE FOUR SACRED MONTHS

All the Islamic months have their own significance but according to the Divine Book al-Quran al-Kareem, there are four months designated as “Sacred Months” (the months of Hurmah). These are Muharram ul Haraam, Rajab ul Murajjab, Dhul Qa’dah and Dhul Hijjah. Everyone should try their best to spend these months with great reverence, sins are supposed to be avoided more than the usual, and the striving to become closer to Almighty Allah should be the intention. In these months the reward of the good deeds is increased than the usual.

Sayyiduna Anas رَضِى اَللهُ عَنْهُ reports, NABI e KAREEM صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَاَصْحَابِهِ وَسَلَّمْ states:
“The one who fasts for three days namely, Thursday, Friday and Saturday in the sacred months, he will be rewarded as of worshipping for two years.”

{Al-Mu’jam al-Aswat, Vol. 1, Page 485, Hadith 1789}

Sayyiduna Abu Umamah رَضِى اَللهُ عَنْهُ narrates, the Last Messenger صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَاَصْحَابِهِ وَسَلَّمْ states: “In five of the following nights, supplication (Dua) is not rejected:

  • The first night of the blessed month of Rajab ul Murajjab,
  • The 15th night of the blessed month of Shabaan al Muazzam,
  • The night between every Thursday and Friday,
  • The night of Eid al-Fitr, (the first night of the month of Shawaal ul Mukarram), and
  • The night of Eid al-Adha (the 10th Dhul Hijjah).
  • {Tarikh Dimishq li-Ibn ‘Asaakir, Vol. 10, Page 408}

Sayyiduna Khalid ibn Ma’daan Alaihi Rehma has reaffirmed:

“There are five specifically exclusive nights in a whole year (Islamic Calendar); whoever spends these nights worshipping Almighty Allah with the intention of gaining the blessings and fasts during the day; Almighty Allah will reward him Jannah (Paradise).”

SubHaan Allah! May Almighty Allah always keep us amonsgt the ones who He loves Aameen Ya RABB !
